Compulsive gambling can create havoc on the financial aspects of one's life. You may be experiencing this personally or feeling impacted due to a loved one's gambling behavior. Either way, you might find that you need help to get back on the right path. The FCCG can provide assistance to help you take the steps necessary to gain control of your financial situation. However, since circumstances vary by situation, direct contact with the Council will be necessary. It is also important to note that the self-help group Gamblers Anonymous (GA) offers a "Pressure Relief Meeting" that assists the gambler and family members in addressing financial, legal and other problems. For more information on GA's Pressure Relief Meeting, call the FCCG HelpLine at 888-ADMIT-IT.

Debt consolidation and consumer credit service organizations will also negotiate with creditors and reorganize payment schedules, amounts and other matters related to your accounts. These services can vary widely. Look for an organization that is a member of the National Foundation for Credit Counseling (NFCC) or the Association of Independent Consumer Credit Counseling Agencies (AICCA) and be certain the one you select has had experience helping gamblers and their families. Keep in mind that recovering persons already participating in self-help groups can also likely provide referral sources with experience, as can the FCCG 24-hour HelpLine (888-ADMIT-IT).

In addition, the FCCG is producing a series of recovery workbooks for gamblers, family members and older adult gamblers, which will contain a self-help financial component in a step-by-step format for restoring one's financial health.
